BISD Accountability Student
& Curriculum Accountability
The TAKS
Mandated Test
BISD
has performance
objectives for tackling the Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
Administered to students in grades 3 through 11, TAKS covers
science and history in addition to the basic subject areas such
as math, English language arts and writing.
District and
campus performance objectives include:
 |
increasing
all student performance; |
 |
strengthening
education partnerships; |
 |
creating a safe, positive work
environment; |
 |
developing a system of shared accountability;
|
 |
providing an effective instructional,
staff development and recruitment program; and |
 |
establishing technology as an integral part of education. |
At the elementary level,
objectives also include a renewed focus
on science and social studies.
At the middle school and
intermediate school levels, objectives
include integrating technology in the core subjects and
improving communication between home and school.
High school performance objectives include a renewed focus on
career, technology and advanced tests as well as improving
graduation rates.
Alternative Placement Center objectives
include improving student personal responsibility, focusing on
the integration of technology and ensuring a quality dropout
prevention and recovery program.
TAKS is the fourth standardized test required by the Texas
Education Agency since 1980.
Teacher Accountability
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
requires each local education agency (LEA) to publicly report
progress of the LEA and its campuses toward meeting the highly
qualified (HQ) teacher requirements.
The following standards are
required to be considered a Highly Qualified teacher:
 |
Has obtained full Texas teacher
certification |
 |
Holds a minimum of a bachelor's
degree |
 |
Demonstrates subject matter
competency in each of the academic subjects taught |
 |
Competency is obtained by
passing the Texas content exam and/or completing 24 college
hours in the subject area being taught |
Below are BISD’s
district campus percentages of Highly Qualified (HQ) teachers and
classes:
