The Lighthouse Learning Center, located at 1035 Dixie Drive, Clute, Texas, is the principle center for alternative educational programming in the Brazosport Independent School District.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Lighthouse Learning Center is to provide hope with educational opportunities designed to meet student’s diverse social and academic needs in a structured but compassionate learning environment. The Lighthouse meets the unique emotional and social needs of students through counseling creating self-worth, personal goal setting, and behavioral interventions. Instrumental to our mission is creating an atmosphere that empowers students to create attitudes of tolerance and respect and to recognize the need for becoming men and women of good character in our society.

Programs

Programs currently available to the students at the Alternative Placement Center are:

  • DAEP – (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program) Secondary education for at-risk secondary students (grades 7-12) with long-term suspensions or assignments by secondary campuses across the District.

  • Project G.R.O.W. – (Gaining Responsibilities, Opportunities, & Wisdom) the elementary (grades 1-6) component of DAEP.

  • KEYS – (Keys Essential to Your Success) The in-take, orientation class that all students (7th through 12th grades) assigned to the LLC Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP) are required to attend.

  • Central School – For students (grades 5=12) with short-term suspensions from their home campus.

  • S.A.I.L. -- (Student Accelerated Instruction and Learning) A true alternative (not disciplinary) education program in BISD.  Classes are 8:00-12:00 and 12:30-4:30, Monday through Friday.  Students who complete all credits as required by BISD and the State of Texas and who pass all exit level TAKS, graduate from the program with a high school diploma

  • HSEP -- (High School Equivalency Program) The Brazosport Independent School District “in-house” GED program.

  • PRS – (Pregnancy Related Services) Support Services, including Compensatory Education Home Instruction (CEHI), a pregnant student receives during the pregnancy, prenatal and postpartum periods to help her adjust academically, mentally and physically and stay in school.

  • School Health Services – Optimal learning requires good health. The school nurse assists students to attain a high level of wellness. The school nurse is a liaison between education and health care, providing a link between school, home, and community.

In addition, the Center serves as the District's clearing house for all students assigned to the Brazoria County juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program - Boot Camp. 

Cafeteria Services

The District participates in the National School Lunch Program and offers nutritionally balanced meals daily to students.  Free and reduced-price meals are available based on financial need.  Information on this program can be obtained from Tina Garcia, 200 Lakeview Drive, Clute, TX. 77531  (Telephone (979) 730-7110).  Project Grow students are not allowed to use the vending machines per state law.

Hot lunches are served daily in the Lighthouse Learning Center cafeteria.

Students’ are expected to pay cash for meals, no charging.  Parents may pay by check for weekly or monthly meals.

Level Cards

The “level card” system is the record used by the LLC staff each day to log student behavior and academic achievement. The evaluative record allows the staff to track student progress daily and students to earn move privileges while assigned to the Lighthouse. There are four levels of cards with “red” the lowest, followed by “yellow” which is the level that all students begin on, up to “green” for students who do well the majority of the time, to “gold” students who exhibit exemplary conduct and academic achievement.
