BISD is pleased to continue
its community partnership with Brazosport College and strongly encourages
interested students to take college classes. Students who are juniors and
who meet entrance requirements may choose to enroll in dual or concurrent
credit courses at Brazosport College.
Dual Credit
is an opportunity to earn college and high school credit while in high
school.
Concurrent Credit
is an opportunity to take college classes while in high school, without
earning high school credit.
Students reap many benefits
by taking dual credit courses:
|
 |
opportunity to
earn both college credit and high school credit while taking a college class
|
 |
monetary
benefit of earning college credit at a much reduced cost compared to a four year college or university, and |
 |
valuable
experience with college life, classes, and responsibilities.
|
A list of courses
approved for dual credit may be found in the
BISD Course Selection Guide
available in the Guidance Office at each high school campus. Interested
students should consult with their guidance counselor and with Mrs.
Phillips, the BC/BISD shared counselor, at the high school. Students
enrolled in the dual credit program are responsible for the total cost of
tuition, fees, and books. This year, new monies are available through the
State of Texas for students who are enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours of
college credit each semester (some restrictions apply). For information,
contact the Brazosport College Financial Aid Department.
BISD classes will begin on
August 12th. Brazosport College classes will begin on August 30th.
For more information see the
BISD Course Selection Guide or
contact the Guidance Office at your high school.
