PE Information
Our Physical Education program will provide developmental skills both physically and mentally, so our students can perform more confidently in their lifetime adventures. The following information is presented in an effort to help you better understand our program and answer frequently asked questions.
Physical Education is an integral part of the elementary curriculum. ALL students are expected to participate in a regular PE program. This is the requirement of the Texas Education Agency. Students may be partially or fully excused for up to 3 days by sending a note clearly stating the problem. After 3 days, a doctor's note is required.
As we begin the year, some students will develop sore muscles. Some soreness is nearly inevitable as you build strong muscles. Stretching and exercising usually takes away soreness. Sandals, jellies and other shoes are known to be the cause of numerous injuries. All students should come to class with shoes fit for running and exercising.
(See note below - Safety First)
We will try to condition the entire body including the mind. Our number one goal is to teach good sportsmanship. Students must learn the strive for success, but also to accept failure in a positive way. At Brannen, we believe in lifetime sports and fitness. We will introduce the students to many of these sports and concepts, through various skill training activities. We will continue with our Brannen Joggers Club in the 4th grade. This year we will be offering "cute feet" for every 20 laps and certificates at various levels of achievement. At 200 laps, students will receive a t-shirt as an increased incentive.
Any student can obtain a satisfactory or higher grade by participating daily, working hard at skills, and having a positive attitude.

PE Rules
1. Always practice good manners.
2. Keep hands, feet and other objects and unkind words to yourself.
3. Take care of school property, including all equipment.
4. Wear clothing in which you can run and exercise. (See Safety First below)
5. Walk to and from class.

Safety First In Physical Education
We are asking for parents to help us prevent injuries. All Students actively participate  during PE doing a variety of activities including running, dodging, jumping, or throwing.
When a student does not wear proper footwear for these types of activities, the chances of injury become much greater. If your child comes to PE without the proper shoes, he/she will walk instead of participating in regular class activities. Please have your child follow these two guidelines:
1. Students should wear athletic type shoes for PE.  This is the safest solution even if it means bringing an extra pair just for PE.
2. Boots, sandals, and heels are not allowed in PE.  They just do not support the student correctly during many activities and lead to injuries.

Also a quick note for girls:  When wearing a skirt or dress to school, please have shorts to change into for PE.
Please help us keep Brannen a safe and healthy experience for your child.
