SECTION II
Qualifications for
Membership
Article I-Basic Requirements
A.
Each member shall be required to have
and maintain enthusiasm and ability, with willingness to cooperate within the
unit as part of a group.
B.
Members of the organization shall be
chosen from the student body of the high school and shall be judged on the basis
of scholarship, conduct, dancing ability, poise, and general appearance.
C.
Members who have been removed from the
organization through the demerit system and desire reinstatement shall meet
try-out requirements.
D.
Each candidate may not have failed any
class and have no unsatisfactory conduct grades in any subject during the six
weeks preceding try-outs in order to participate in practice sessions for
try-outs.
E.
Consideration is also given to each
member’s personal appearance. This includes:
1.
Poise
2.
Posture
3.
Grooming
F. Members may not participate as a Junior
Varsity or Varsity high school cheerleader or play any sport that conflicts with
football season. Members who play other sports or participate in other school
activities will work out a schedule with the director and the coach of their
sport/sponsor of their activity so that as few conflicts as possible occur.
Article II-Grade Requirements
A.
Grade requirements will be parallel to
those set up by the Texas State Board of Education and UIL.
B.
Each member may have no unsatisfactory
conduct grades in any subject. If this occurs, the member will be suspended
from active participation for six weeks.
