DECA's
Scholarships
Numerous scholarships are sponsored through various National Advisory Board
members. The amount ranges from $500 to $1,500. They are renewable. DECA awards
up to 60 scholarships annually in addition to the SEARS, JCPenney, Otis
Spunkmeyer, Best Buy Co., Inc., Publix Super Market, Marriott and Pepsico/Frito-Lay,
Inc. Scholarships.
- The
Harry A. Applegate/DECA scholarship
is for individuals who are currently enrolled in
National DECA and are pursuing a two- or four-year course of study in
marketing, merchandising or management. The applicant must meet the state
deadline first and then the state will submit applications to National DECA
based on their allocations no later than the second Monday of March each year.
There are seven scholarship
programs that are awarded separately from the DECA Scholarship Awards Program.
They are the JCPenney
Scholarship, SEARS Scholarship, Otis Spunkmeyer
Scholarship, Best Buy Scholarship, Publix Super Market
Scholarship, Marriott Scholarship and the Frito-Lay Scholarship.

The JCPenney, SEARS and Publix scholarships require you
to be a current national member of DECA and an associate for either JCPenney,
SEARS or Publix to be eligible.
- You must be a graduating senior and
show community involvement as well as a national member of DECA to be eligible
for the Otis Spunkmeyer Scholarship.
The Best Buy Scholarship requirements include being a National DECA
member, employed by Best Buy and involved in Holiday Help.
- You must be a National DECA member
and demonstrate a career interest in hospitality to be eligible for the
Marriott Scholarship.
- The Frito-Lay Scholarship
requirements include being a National DECA member and involvement in the
school-based enterprise.
Many other National Advisory Board
companies offer scholarships to National DECA members. These scholarship
applications and awards are available directly through the organizations. They
include:
- Berkeley College
- DATAMATCH, Inc.
- The Fashion Institute of Design
&Merchandising
- International Fine Arts College
- Johnson & Wales University
- Kettering University
- Northwood University
The applicant may submit their
application directly to National DECA instead of going through the state program
for these seven scholarships.
