DECA's Scholarships

Numerous scholarships are sponsored through various National Advisory Board members. The amount ranges from $500 to $1,500. They are renewable. DECA awards up to 60 scholarships annually in addition to the SEARS, JCPenney, Otis Spunkmeyer, Best Buy Co., Inc., Publix Super Market, Marriott and Pepsico/Frito-Lay, Inc. Scholarships.

  • The Harry A. Applegate/DECA scholarship is for individuals who are currently enrolled in National DECA and are pursuing a two- or four-year course of study in marketing, merchandising or management. The applicant must meet the state deadline first and then the state will submit applications to National DECA based on their allocations no later than the second Monday of March each year.

There are seven scholarship programs that are awarded separately from the DECA Scholarship Awards Program. They are the JCPenney Scholarship, SEARS Scholarship, Otis Spunkmeyer Scholarship, Best Buy Scholarship, Publix Super Market Scholarship, Marriott Scholarship and the Frito-Lay Scholarship.

  • The JCPenney, SEARS and Publix scholarships require you to be a current national member of DECA and an associate for either JCPenney, SEARS or Publix to be eligible.
  • You must be a graduating senior and show community involvement as well as a national member of DECA to be eligible for the Otis Spunkmeyer Scholarship.
The Best Buy Scholarship requirements include being a National DECA member, employed by Best Buy and involved in Holiday Help.
  • You must be a National DECA member and demonstrate a career interest in hospitality to be eligible for the Marriott Scholarship.
  • The Frito-Lay Scholarship requirements include being a National DECA member and involvement in the school-based enterprise.

  • Kettering University
  • Northwood University

The applicant may submit their application directly to National DECA instead of going through the state program for these seven scholarships.
