Congratulations to the
BUC and Lady BUC Wrestlers, winners of the 2008 "Woodshed" District
24 Dual Championship held Saturday here at Performance Gym. The BUCS
went undefeated in 5 duals, knocking off Clear Creek, Clear Lake,
Clear Brook, Friendswood and Beaumont Westbrook to capture the title.
Going undefeated on the day were Zach Odenweller, Dillon Parrish, Jake
Baumeister and Jamaal Bufford, and scoring victories for the BUCS were
Travis Hill, Jonathan Flores, Josh Rinehimer, Austin Perkins, Travis
Gonzalez and Josh McGough. Senior Trevor West, wrestling up one weight
class and with an ailing shoulder, fought off Westbrook's Jason Park for
three periods, securing the victory for the BUCS. For his efforts Trevor
was named the co-MVW along with Jakob Baumeister. The Lady BUCS
took home two gold medals at 110 and 119, with Ashley Wilkes and Tiffany
Ramirez going undefeated on the day, a silver at 128 for Kayse Slaughter,
finishing 3-1, and a bronze for freshman Rayshel Newman. The undermanned
BUCS, missing Josh Raymond, Michael Martin, Anthony Bush, Victoria Hill
and Joanie Cortez, wrestled tougher and with more purpose than either
Coach Baker or Coach Williams had ever witnessed. It was truly a team
victory. Now it's on to the District 24 tournament Feb. 2 in Beaumont,
where the BUCS hope to qualify everyone for the Region 3 state qualifying
tournament in Katy the following weekend. Congratulations and Go BUCS!
