Laurie
Pessarra

Laurie Pessarra teaches home economics at Clute Intermediate
School. She attended several colleges: Tyler Junior
College, Sam Houston State University, and the University
of Houston at Clear Lake. When asked why she went into
teaching she said, "I really liked two of my
homemaking teachers and thought I'd enjoy doing what they
did." She also says, "When you've worked at a
place as long as I have at C.I.S., then yes, it becomes a
second family." It is a joy to come to work each day
and she likes eighth graders. Mrs. Pessarra's favorite
thing to teach in home economics is cooking because the
students like it best. She feels that home economics
should be a mandatory course. "This is the only
place you can learn how to make the home a better place
to be. Who doesn't want that?"
