Volunteers at CIS

CIS values its adult volunteers. Library volunteers are trained on how to repair books and also mend torn pages, repair book jackets, type call numbers, and shelve books. Library volunteers also process books and get them ready for circulation. They prepared books from the bindery for circulation by putting new call numbers, AR information, genre stitches on the books. Volunteers also cover book jackets with Mylar covers to help protect the book jackets from wear and tear. Mrs. Mary Monroe has been volunteering in the CIS Library for over 5 years. She now trains new volunteers to help them learn all the skills needed to be a good, knowledgeable library volunteer.

Go Hog Wild

Recently we had a pep rally about reading. Mrs. Betts, CIS librarian, also talked about what books are good for the intermediate level students. Bikers on motorcycles rode around with our principals. One of the bikers was one of our own teachers Mr.Peltier. Whatever grade level gets the highest reading points then their principal will have to kiss a pig at the end of the year. The 6th grade principal is Mr. Whitehead, the 7th grade principal is Mrs. Roden, and the 8th grade principal is Mr. Galaviz.

Family Fun Night

Parents recently came to the CIS campus to be with their children during "Family Fun Night". A computer lab was open for parents and students to look into careers. Teachers from all grades put up a fun activity related to their subject. Many parents and students attended. We are looking forward to next year.

FCA Speaker

Ryan Harlan

On Dec. 16th Clute Intermediate Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) listened to decathlon champion Ryan Harlan speak about his experience in the athletic field. He graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas and he is a 2006 USA Outdoor decathlon runner-up, two time USA indoor champion, 2004 NCAA champion, and 2000 National Junior Champion.  Students attending were treated to a meal.

"Baby think it over" Program

Recently our 8th grade Family and Consumer Science students were given a computerized doll which records how
they take care of it. Students have to feed it, change its diaper, burp it, rock it, and do anything else you would do
for a regular baby. Students are allowed to take it home for one night. The results of the experiment are the students'
test grade for the six weeks period. Parents are informed prior to getting the project. The parents are instructed to
getting the project. The parents are instructed to let the project be done by the students with little or no help by them.
Students are amazed how much care a baby demands. Mrs. Pessarra hopes that this project will help students make
educated decisions about their parental decisions.

Science Field Trip

Recently our 7th grade students went to the Brazoria
