These new courses range from Advanced Animal Science all the way to nationally recognized computer science and engineering courses.

Two of the approved offerings are Project Lead the Way courses. Project Lead the Way courses are nationally recognized. The curriculum is developed by a talented team of professionals with extensive education and experience in the classroom and industry. It provides a cohesive instructional path for students that is informed by their personal classroom experiences, educators, current research, and ongoing collaboration with experts in academia and industry. This powerful combination provides a comprehensive learning experience unlike any other that provides students with leading-edge knowledge and expertise, as well as transportable skills they can apply no matter how the career landscape evolves. These two courses provide the foundation of two Project Lead the Way pathways in Engineering and Computer Science. Each pathways consists of a total of four courses. The Computer Science pathway starts with Computer Science Essentials. The Engineering pathway starts with Introduction to Engineering Design. Brazosport ISD has applied for a competitive grant to provide additional funding to launch these courses next year.

Other approved courses include Advanced Animal Science, college admissions preparation, and high school level statistics. Advanced Animal Science is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) science course that supports students in pursuing a veterinary assistant certification. The college admissions preparation class focuses on successfully preparing students to navigate the college admissions process. Students will participate in preparation for college entrance exams, review the college applications and admission process, learn how to apply for scholarships, and write application essays. Finally, high school level statistics provides a valuable upper level math class that may be a more relevant choice for some student’s post-secondary education goals.

“We are excited to be able to offer these new innovative course options,” said Superintendent Danny Massey. “These courses, along with the hundreds of other offerings, give our students more customized and personalized learning experiences to better prepare them for their future.”

Brazoswood High School seniors Nash Neff and Anne-Elisabeth Baker share what drew them to take the rocket engineering course and the project they are working on this school year. BISD offers Rocket Engineering 1 and 2, under the instruction of Dale Hobbs.
