The Brazosport ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a district-wide salary increase for all BISD employees Tuesday evening.
A general 3.3% of market or $1,850 raise was approved for all teachers in the district. This increase brings BISD’s starting teacher salary to $53,000, and keeps BISD at or above the market for experienced teachers. Additionally, all employees that are not teachers will receive a 3% of market increase.
“We are in a very competitive area in the state and our Board and Superintendent recognize the need to recruit and retain quality new and experienced teachers”, said Jay Whitehead, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.
In addition to the increases and adjustments, the district pays stipends for high school math and science teachers at $3,000, for seventh and eighth grade math and science teachers at $1,500, and Bilingual stipends $4,000. BISD will continue to pay a $1,500 - $2,000 stipend to Special Education Teachers as well.
Core subject teachers meeting specific criteria are eligible for a $10,000 stipend (Distinguished teachers) or a $2,000 stipend (Accomplished teachers) at Lanier Middle School. Distinguished teachers must have at least three years of classroom teaching experience, have outstanding appraisals, excellent attendance, and come highly recommended by their current supervisor. Accomplished teachers must have favorable appraisals, show student growth, and be recommended by the Lanier Principal and approved by the Chief Academics Officer and Superintendent.
“There is no greater impact on student learning than a highly effective classroom teacher. We want the very best for our students,” said BISD Superintendent Danny Massey.
