Seven schools in Brazosport Independent School District have earned a total of 15 Distinctions according to the 2017 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings. Fifteen distinctions are the most ever earned by BISD campuses. Ten of the distinctions came in the areas of Student Progress and Closing Performance Gaps, which are the two areas most impacted by the district’s ongoing intervention and Professional Learning Communities initiatives.

Brannen Elementary, who finished in the top 4.5% of campuses in the state, earned every possible distinction including Reading, Math, Student Progress, Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness. Speaking of campuses that earned all possible distinctions this year, TEA Commissioner Mike Morath stated, “Amazing work takes place in classrooms across our state every school day, but especially on these campuses where every possible distinction has been earned.”

Roberts Elementary and Long Elementary received three out of five distinctions each. Griffith and Polk Elementaries, along with Lanier Middle School and Freeport Intermediate School earned one distinction each. Distinctions are awarded to campuses that not only receive the highest accountability rating, but are also in the top quartile of similar campuses across the state. Distinctions are awarded in the following areas: Academic Achievement in English Language Arts/Reading; Academic Achievement in Mathematics; Academic Achievement in Science; Academic Achievement in Social Studies; Top 25 Percent: Student Progress; Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps; and/or Postsecondary Readiness.

“This is more great evidence of the high quality of education BISD students are receiving,” said BISD Superintendent Danny Massey
