CAER
(Community Awareness & Emergency Response)

BISD HOTLINE

Brazosport Independent School District has an emergency hotline phone number which is accessible to the public. The hotline will provide information on crisis situations which may occur in our district. This number will also be used to provide updated information on our district's status during hurricane evacuations.
Hotline Number: (979) 388-0218

In an emergency, call

bullet238-CAER
(238-2237)

The CAER information telephone is answered 24 hours a day. Whenever an incident occurs, an updated recorded message provides information to callers. The Community Alert Network (CAN) system alerts people in the potentially affected area by telephone and provides instructions on what to do.

If you are outside and hear the CAER Sirens:
  1. DON'T PANIC
  2. Go inside your home, car, or a public building. Do not attempt to travel to another location in the area unless instructed.
  3. Close off all windows and air conditioners.
  4. Listen to CAER Radio 1610 AM for emergency information. If there is potential for community impact the CAN system will be activated.
  5. If you do not have a radio, call 238-CAER (2237)
  6. If the release gets inside your shelter, place a wet cloth over your mouth and nose to serve as a filter.

If you hear the CAER Sirens but can't get inside:

bulletMove crosswind (in a direction so the wind is blowing from your left to right, or vice versa, but not into your face or from behind).

CAER Sirens
The CAER siren alert is only sounded in the community it affects.

The all clear is the same siren.

(This is different than the plant sirens which have specific patterned signals.)

Sirens are tested every Monday beginning at 12:10 p.m.
