Senator Rand Paul

Senator Rand PaulRand Paul, or as he was known growing up, Randy Paul, attended BISD schools throughout his formative years and was a 1981 graduate of Brazoswood High School. While attending Bwood, Paul played football and excelled in swimming.

Rand attended Baylor University in Waco, but left early when Duke University accepted him into their medical school. Paul graduated from Duke Medical School in 1988, and went on to pursue a general surgery internship at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center, where he met Kentucky native, Kelley Ashby. The couple dated for a few years and married in 1991. Paul finished his ophthalmology residency at Duke two years later. Upon completion of his training, Rand then moved his family to Kentucky, his wife’s home state, to open his private practice. Rand and Kelley have three sons.

Rand Paul, a former president and 19-year member of Bowling Green Lions Club, started the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic in 1995, a center offering free eye care to those less fortunate. Paul has also performed eye surgeries for disadvantaged kids with the Children of the Americas Program. In recognition of his continual efforts to provide vision care to those in need, Lions Clubs International honored Paul with these award:

  • Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services, Lions Club International Foundation
  • Lion of the Year Award, Bowling Green Lions
  • President’s Award, Bowling Green Lions
  • Fines E. Davis Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Service, Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation
  • Governors Appreciation Award for Sight Conservation, Lions Club International

Rand Paul, elected as one of Kentucky’s senators in November of 2010, took office in January 2011. Paul serves on the Foreign Relations, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, and Small Business Committees.

Rand Paul, the youngest inductee this year, has accomplished a great deal thus far in his life. We in Brazosport ISD believe that Senator Paul will continue to make significant contributions through his leadership and service for years to come.
