Reentry into Brazosport ISD
If you consider withdrawing your child from the Brazosport Independent School
District for home schooling or entry in a school that is not accredited, you should be
aware of some of the possible results in case of the child's eventual return to public
school.
In Grades 1-5:
 | The child will be required to take the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and
other assessments on the appropriate testing dates with the students in his or her grade
level, even though the child may have been studying a curriculum that is not based on the
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. |
If you have questions about readmitting your child to the Brazosport
Independent School District in
grades 1-5, please call the Director of Curriculum & Accountability, Mrs. Becky
Rinehart at 730-7000, extension #10149.
In Grades 6-8:
 | The child will be required to take the Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and
other assessments on the appropriate testing dates with the students in his or her grade
level, even though the child may have been studying a curriculum that is not based on the
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). |
 | To earn high school credits while in grades 7 or 8, the student will be required to take
the actual course or district approved credit by exam. Brazosport ISD does not
automatically give credit for any coursework taken outside Texas Education
Agency-accredited public schools (including work in home schools). |
In Grades 9-12:
 | Students must earn credit in all courses, either through actually taking the course in a
TEA-accredited school, through testing by district approved credit-by-exam tests (for
courses in which the student has received prior instruction), or through testing by
district approved credit-by-exam tests (for courses which the student has received no
prior instruction). Each exam covers one semester of a course; successful completion of
the exam will grant 1/2 credit. |
 | After re-enrolling, the student must pass the exit-level TAKS and other assessments,
even though the child may have been studying a curriculum that is not based on the Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills. In order to receive a diploma, the student must pass all
parts of the TAKS test, which is free of charge but is administered only to students who
are currently enrolled in TEA-accredited schools or who have completed all required
coursework at such a school. |
 | Information about these tests is available from the Coordinator of
Assessment or from a
counselor on the school campus. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain this
information and to prepare for any tests he or she wishes to take. |
 | Eligibility for extracurricular activities, including UIL activities, is based on the
number of approved credits that the child has earned. |
If you have questions about readmitting your child to the
Brazosport Independent School District in grades 6-12, please call the Director
of Curriculum & Accountability, Mrs. Becky Rinehart at 730-7000, extension #10149.
Please be advised that home-schooled students may not participate in or use any
public school programs, facilities, or services except for those specified by special
education ARD committees.
