How Confidential Are The Drug Testing Results?

Pinnacle Media Mgt. retains control of all student records related to drug-testing and will only communicate information related to a positive test result to the parent/ guardian and the Superintendent or designee.

What If My Child Refuses to Take The Test?

A refusal to participate if selected will be treated as if the student received a positive result. Extracurricular activities and/or driving privileges will be lost.

What If I Don’t Consent to My Child Being Tested?

Both the parent and student must sign a consent form authorizing the student’s participation in the drug-testing program. If a consent form is not on file, the student cannot participate in extracurricular activities or obtain a parking permit.

What Happens If My Child’s Results Are Positive?

If a student tests positive, Pinnacle will first further test the specimen using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) methodology. If the specimen still tests positive, Pinnacle will contact the student’s parent or guardian to determine whether there is an alternative medical explanation for the positive result. If there is no medical explanation for a positive result, the district will be notified and the student and parent/guardian will be given the opportunity to participate in a conference with the principal or designee. The student will receive counseling by the district or must show proof of external counseling. The following will also occur as a result of a positive test result:

bullet

1st Offense: The student will be suspended from all competitive after school extracurricular activities and/or parking permit privileges for fifteen (15) school days.

bullet

2nd Offense: The student will be suspended from all competitive after school extracurricular activities and/or parking permit privileges for thirty (30) school days.

bullet

3rd Offense: The student will be suspended from all competitive after school extracurricular activities and/or parking permit privileges for one calendar year from the date of the confirmation of the third positive test. The student must consent to a drug test at the end of the year of suspension in order to regain eligibility.
