Coverage may be purchased for eligible dependents at group premium rates. This

(claim) or $1,000,000 per policy year.

employees a choice between cash compensation and reimbursement for health care expenses
otherwise covered under other plans. In this plan pre-tax dollars are used to pay certain

Federal Credit Union
All employees of Brazosport ISD and Brazosport College who pay into TRS are eligible to
join the Brazosport Teachers Federal Credit Union. Benefits include saving accounts,
loans, cash withdrawals, money order and traveler's check purchases. The credit union also

protection/life savings insurance. The credit union is open year-round, Monday through

C.O.B.R.A.
The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985 entitles all covered
employees to continue the same benefit plan for up to 18 months after terminating
employment. This option requires that the employee (or employees dependent) pay both the
employee's and the District's contribution for group premiums.
Direct Deposit/Payroll Deduction
Employees of the Brazosport ISD are entitled to utilize payroll deductions
to ease the payment process of many benefits. Employees must complete payroll deduction
authorization forms at the time of enrollment into the various plans. Voluntary deductions
may include: Tax-Sheltered Annuities, Professional Dues, United Way Contributions, Credit
Union Transactions, and Group Health/Dental plans.

Tax Sheltered Annuities
Brazosport ISD employees have the option to participate in payroll deductions for Tax
Sheltered Annuity (TSA) as a means of personal savings and investment. The annuity amount
reduces the employee's gross wages before any withholding tax is computed, thus reducing
the amount of income tax the employee would normally pay to IRS. The taxes are due when
the saved funds are withdrawn in future years, when the taxpayer is likely to be in a
lower tax bracket.
Professional Degree Advancement
The District offers remuneration to all certified teachers for semester credit hours
received while under contract and after one semester of employment. A rate of $60 per
semester hour is provided according to certain defined criteria. The request for approval
for professional growth must be completed and approved prior to completion and
compensation for the course.
