Hospitalization

Employees may elect health coverage in which the district contributes to the monthly premium for employees covered in this plan. Benefits of this health coverage administered by Aetna include a $750 deductible (PPO) and a $1,500 deductible (non-PPO).  Employee premium cost is $66 per month with coverage for eligible dependents at additional premium costs through payroll deduction. The district provides optional dental coverage to eligible employees. Coverage may be purchased for eligible dependents at group premium rates. This plan enrollment requires a participation time of 24 months. Optional life insurance is also included in this plan with premiums being paid by the employee. If you would like more information about Aetna, visit www.aetna.com.

Prescriptions

Brazosport ISD offers a prescription drug benefit plan that is an independent program separate from an individual's regular plan. It provides employees low cost prescribed medicines at local participating pharmacies. Employees are able to purchase name brand formulary, name brand non-formulary, or generic prescriptions as well as mail order prescriptions at a greatly reduced price.  If you would like to access Aetna Rx, our prescription benefit manager, visit www.aetna.com to do so.  For mail order service, call Aetna Rx Home Delivery toll free at 1-866-612-3862 or visit www.aetnarxhomedelivery.com.

Disability Insurance

The district provides long Term Disability (LTD) coverage at no cost to the eligible employee. It provides replacement income for employees who have exhausted their sick leave and are no longer able to work due to disability. The LTD plan pays a benefit of up to 60% of the employee's base monthly wage, subject to a maximum of $5,000 per month, beginning after 90 consecutive calendar days of total disability. This coverage is in addition to the disability plan provided by TRS.

Life Insurance

Brazosport ISD provides a $10,000 Group Life Insurance Plan at no cost to eligible employees. This policy also contains a double indemnity rider in case of accident.

Professional Liability

The District pays the full cost of providing professional liability insurance for eligible employees. Members of the staff are protected by a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy, which provides liability protection for damages for each loss (claim) or $1,000,000 per policy year.

Flexible Reimbursement

Brazosport ISD has designed a flexible reimbursement plan to provide employees a choice between cash compensation and reimbursement for health care expenses otherwise covered under other plans. In this plan pre-tax dollars are used to pay certain medical expenses not covered by the health plan.

Federal Credit Union

All employees of Brazosport ISD and Brazosport College who pay into TRS are eligible to join the Brazosport Teachers Federal Credit Union. Benefits include saving accounts, loans, cash withdrawals, money order and traveler's check purchases. The credit union also makes available new car pricing, MasterCard, notary service, postage stamps and loan protection/life savings insurance. The credit union is open year-round, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Workers Compensation

Brazosport ISD pays its employees the entire cost for Workers Compensation insurance which provides payments to any employee injured during the course of their employment. All employees should report IMMEDIATELY all work-related injuries or ailments to their immediate supervisor. All employees are covered on the company premises or while traveling on company business.

C.O.B.R.A.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985 entitles all covered employees to continue the same benefit plan for up to 18 months after terminating employment. This option requires that the employee (or employees dependent) pay both the employee's and the District's contribution for group premiums.

Direct Deposit/Payroll Deduction

Employees of the Brazosport ISD are entitled to utilize payroll deductions to ease the payment process of many benefits. Employees must complete payroll deduction authorization forms at the time of enrollment into the various plans. Voluntary deductions may include: Tax-Sheltered Annuities, Professional Dues, United Way Contributions, Credit Union Transactions, and Group Health/Dental plans.

Tax Sheltered Annuities

Brazosport ISD employees have the option to participate in payroll deductions for Tax Sheltered Annuity (TSA) as a means of personal savings and investment. The annuity amount reduces the employee's gross wages before any withholding tax is computed, thus reducing the amount of income tax the employee would normally pay to IRS. The taxes are due when the saved funds are withdrawn in future years, when the taxpayer is likely to be in a lower tax bracket.

Professional Degree Advancement

The District offers remuneration to all certified teachers for semester credit hours received while under contract and after one semester of employment. A rate of $60 per semester hour is provided according to certain defined criteria. The request for approval for professional growth must be completed and approved prior to completion and compensation for the course.
