About BISD...

The Brazosport Independent School District, established in 1944, encompasses 200 square miles in Brazoria County and serves the communities of Clute, Freeport, Jones Creek, Lake Jackson, Oyster Creek, Quintana, Richwood, and Surfside Beach. Accredited by the Texas Education Agency, the district provides a quality education for pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Also provided are special education programs for pre-school age children and a career and technology education program on the secondary level.

The mission of BISD is to inspire continuous learning and ensure academic success for all students by working as a team to focus on the diverse strengths and needs of our community.

Student Enrollment
Approximately 13,000 students make Brazosport I.S.D. one of the largest school districts in Brazoria County.

Finances
The 2009-2010 budget is $94,872,737.

Tax Rate
The 2009 tax rate is set at $1.2285 per $100 assessed market value.

Facilities
The district has eleven elementary schools, two middle schools, three intermediate schools, two high schools and one alternative placement center.

Employees
Brazosport employs approximately 1,800 people dedicated to the district's educational mission. Over half of these employees work directly with students on a daily basis.

Teacher Salaries
A 2009-20010 beginning teacher with a bachelor's degree earns $43,000 and a beginning teacher with a master's degree earns $44,000. BISD also provides a comprehensive benefits package.

Curriculum
In addition to regular education, the district's curriculum includes programs is special education, gifted and talented education, career and technology education, as well as extensive extracurricular activities.

Pupil/Teacher Ratios
The pupil/teacher ratio average is 19:1.

Ethnic Composition
The district ethnic composition is 44.5% White, 43.2% Hispanic, 10.2% African American, 1.7% Asian or Pacific Islander and .3% Native American.
