Title I Parent Involvement Policy

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

 R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School is dedicated to providing a quality education and a safe environment on our campus for every student.   To accomplish this objective, the campus will develop and maintain partnerships with parents/caregivers, patrons, and community members.  R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School will involve parents/caregivers in all aspects of the various local, state, and federal programs offered in Brazosport ISD schools.  Everyone gains if school, home and community work together to promote high achievement by our children.

 PARENT INVOLVEMENT IN POLICY DEVELOPMENT

 

Parents, members of the community and school staff will work to design and implement the Parent Involvement Policy.  R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School will publicize and actively recruit the participation of a diverse parent population.

 ANNUAL MEETING FOR TITLE I PARENTS/CAREGIVERS

 R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School uses Title I funds to provide school wide services for students.  R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School will hold at least one meeting annually to review Title I guidelines and services offered through the district.  Copies of the district’s Parent Involvement Policy and Parent/Student/Teacher/Administrator Compact will be distributed at the meeting.  Parents/Caregivers will be encourage to become involved in revising and updating the policy as necessary and parent volunteers will be recruited for various campus committee appointments.

 The meeting will be held at a convenient time and location.  Notice of the meeting will be provided through invitation to parents/caregivers and public notices.  Translators will be available to help with Non-English speaking parents/caregivers.

 SCHOOL COMPACTS

 In accordance with Title I regulations, school and parent representatives will develop a Parent/Student/Teacher/Administrator Compact.  This compact will identify ways the school and parents can share the responsibility for student performance and success.

 All parents will be given a copy of the compact detailing the responsibilities that teachers, administrators, parents and students have in helping students accomplish performance goals.

 Parent/student signatures will be required; parents are encouraged to discuss the contents of the compact with their child(ren).

 PARENT INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 The R. O’Hara Lanier Middle School will support many varied ways of parental involvement as it strives to develop and maintain an optimum learning and a safe environment for all students.  Parents and community members may contribute through volunteer programs at school as well as create a supportive home atmosphere.  Parents and community members’ suggestions for improving the school are encouraged and welcomed.

 STAFF/PARENT COMMUNICATIONS

 Newsletters, conferences, personal contacts and written notices will be utilized in English and Spanish and any other languages if necessary to establish and maintain an open line
of communication.

Administrators and Staff members will make every effort to communicate positively and work effectively with parents and community members.

 EVALUATION
Parents will be given the opportunity to review the effectiveness of the Parent Involvement Program based on a needs assessment and offer suggestions for improvement.

 FUNDING
One percent of the Title I funds will be set aside for purposes of parental involvement.  The expenditures must be in accordance with the guidelines of allowable use of funds.

 CONCLUDING STATEMENT
R. O’Hara Lanier is committed to the success of students.  We will work together with parents to monitor the effectiveness of our Parent Involvement and Title I Programs and to provide excellence in education.  This policy will be promoted by the administrators, principals, and other school staff as we seek active participation by our parents.
