Lake Jackson Intermediate to Stage "L.J.I. Idol" to Benefit Vanessa's Big Heart Foundation L.J.I. Idol is an all-school, all-star, talent showcase. It is an event that is open to anyone who wants an opportunity to show off their unique talents. We have been doing this for the last four years and have always given the money to charity. We have given as much as $1,000.00 to causes such as hurricane and tsunami relief as well as the Military Mom’s of Brazoria County. This year’s charity will be Vanessa’s Big Heart Foundation, an organization that helps to raise money and awareness for Cardiomyopathy. This is 'heart-muscle' disease for which there is no cure. Texas Children's Hospital is the leading research hospital for in this area. Money raised for the Big Heart Foundation goes directly to this research lab. It also goes to support Camp Pump It Up. This is an annual camp for kids who suffer from this heart disease. As many of you know, this foundation has a special place in the heart of our principal, Mr. Massey, whose son, Brock, recently underwent a heart transplant due to Cardiomyopathy: The couple that created Vanessa's Big Heart Foundation were the parents of Vanessa. She died at 4 months old from Cardiomyopathy, specifically non-compaction of the left ventricle. I have met the parents, Janie and Ron Dale, and began helping support the Foundation. We have become close and have a real bond because Brock had the same exact condition that Vanessa had, non-compaction of left ventricle. Thanks for all of your work for LJI Idol. It is a great event for our campus that I am really proud of. I would not miss it for the world. Tickets will be sold for $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. Tickets will be sold next week during lunch. Auditions are being held this afternoon and we should have about 20 acts. We will have 3 special guest judges who will decide the winners. We will not have judges conferring with the contestants. There will be no “Simon” to put anybody down. We’re just going to have a good time and raise money for a good cause.

Access Your Child's Meal Account Online! Dear Brazosport ISD Parents, Brazosport ISD Child Nutrition Services has implemented a new on-line meal account retrieval and meal payment system to better serve you. This service provides access, via the Internet, to view your child’s meal account balance as well as viewing a 30-day history of their meal purchases and account activity. The site also allows the option to prepay for meals on-line, a 3.99% fee is charged by the credit card processing company. A minimum meal account deposit of $15.00 is required. It should be noted the meal account balance and meal purchase history information is delayed by one day. As an example, if you log on the Internet and check your child’s meal balance on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. the data you would be viewing would be for Thursday, December 6, 2007. To use this service, you must have your child’s student ID number. The child’s student ID number is a 5 digit number located on your child’s report card/class schedule. In most cases your child can provide you with this number. If your child does not know the ID number please call the Child Nutrition Office for assistance, (979)730-7110. The student ID is needed each time the account is accessed. Logging On: Go directly to the webpage: www.mymealmoney.com/brazosport.aspx Or Go to the district website: www.brazosportisd.net Look at the Hot Topics section Click on Student Meal Accounts/Pay Online Follow the directions given on the web page by entering the child’s last name and ID number. An example is provided for your guidance. Press the green Go! button. Your child’s Name, Account Number and Account Balance should appear. To view the account activity, select “History”. If you wish to make an on-line payment, select “Pre-Pay”, then select Meal Payments from the left margin. The next step is to find your child’s campus and proceed with the website’s directions. We certainly hope you find this new on-line meal account retrieval and on-line payment service helpful. Thank you, Christy Koury Director Child Nutrition Services

LJI Student Pronounced "Outstanding" at Brazosport Performance! Dear LJI Choir Family, Please take a look at the e-mail I received from Bill Adams, director of the Fort Bend Boys Choir, regarding his impressions of Alfredo Tobias’ performance in “Amahl and the Night Visitors” this past weekend at the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences. I know it is a busy time of year, but if you could take some time out of your schedule and come see this young man, it would be time well spent. Not only does he sing like a bird but he also plays trumpet in the Youth Symphony, plays piano, and sings mariachi. The performances this weekend are Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sunday at 2:30. Their website is www.bcfas.org. Just click on the tab that says “Center Stages.”
...really did enjoy hearing that work again -- Alfredo was outstanding -- clearly the most talented one on stage...he was in a league of his own. I've done the play over a dozen other times semi-professionally and no boy has ever matched Alfredo. I know Gian Carlo would be pleased ~ Best regards for a good run of the show!

IMPORTANT TRAFFIC INFORMATIONParents, Please be aware there are two drop off and pick up locations at LJIS. You may drop off in the morning and pick up your child in the afternoon in the front of the school building on Oyster Creek Dr. OR on the east side of the school building near the old gym. The line of cars down Oyster Creek Dr. is unusually long and there is often no car line on the east side of the school building. On days it is raining, we allow entrance in the building from the east drop off location. If your child rides a bike or walks, please remind them to stay out of the street, remain on the sidewalk, and use the pedestrian crossing areas at the traffic lights. No students are allowed to be dropped off or picked up in the bus lanes in the back of the building. This area is for staff parking and buses only. A campus map is enclosed below. Thanks, Danny Massey Principal Lake Jackson Intermediate School

Pants MUST FIT the waist area and should not be oversized, sagged, or have holes of any kind. | |
| No uncovered halters, tank tops, strapless tops, spaghetti tops, see-through garments, bare midriff, or bare tops may be worn. | |
| Form-fitting, stretch clothing such as biking shorts, body suits, leotards, tights, leggings, etc., shall not be worn except when worn appropriately as an undergarment beneath clothing. | |
| Boy’s shirt tails must be tucked in. | |
| The District prohibits clothing with pictures, emblems, or writings that are objectionable in nature, lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene; sexually explicit phrases or pictures; advertising that depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, and/or other substances prohibited under policy. | |
| Visible tattoos are not allowed. Any tattoo, artificial design or adornment not hidden must be removed or completely covered. | |
| Earrings may be worn only by female students. No other visible body piercing adornment is allowed. | |
| Hair length for boys, in a free fall manner, may extend to the eyebrows in front, to the bottom of the ear, or to the bottom of the standard shirt collar. Boy’s hair length should not extend further than 2 inches from the scalp (afro, spiked, etc.) and other unusual styling (streaking colors, designs, or other “exotic” appearances) is not permitted. Boys may not wear ponytails. | |
| Facial hair (beards, mustaches, etc.) is not permitted. Sideburns may not extend below the bottom of the ear or be extreme. | |
| The District prohibits the presence of any apparel, jewelry, accessory, notebook, or manner of grooming which denotes membership in gangs. | |
| Any grooming or dress fad that the principal determines materially or substantially detracts from or interferes with the educational program and/or creates a health or hazard to the student’s safety or others may be prohibited. |
