Purple Penguins Make L.J.I. Proud!

Lake Jackson Intermediate School is blessed to have an outstanding educator leading our life skills program.  Linda Arntsen and her team, including Willie Brown and Rachel Caffey, work tirelessly to help our life skills children.  They are a special team and we appreciate their hard work!  Below is a message from Linda regarding our Purple Penguins!

"We would like to name Thursdays for the rest of the school year 'Wear your purple' day in support of the Purple Penguin Baseball Team. Lake Jackson Little League has included all of the Life Skills kids in our area on a team called the Purple Penguins. Most of my current and former (and future) students play on the team. . . We would love to see your faces in the stands from time to time in support of our kids and this wonderful program our city is supporting. Linda Malvern, the Life Skills Teacher at Rasco has worked tirelessly over the years to make this program awesome. Now it is time to gather some grass roots support in our dream to make this “A League of Our Own”. I believe that support has to start with us. I am asking you to just come to one game this year and cheer for our kids. Bring your families and friends.  I guarantee you will have a good time. And don’t forget to wear your purple on game days."

(We are selling shirts for $10.00 that are similar to our jerseys, also).

As always, I thank you for your support.

Go Penguins!

LJI Mission Possible Environmental Team

As good stewards of the environment, we can all make a difference. That is exactly what a group of LJI students are doing. Last year these students tackled a major environmental disaster,  MODO Zeus, an abandoned oil rig at Quintana Beach.  After an investigative study on the toxic chemicals present and the impact on our community, students wrote letters to our congressmen and  presented their findings to their peers urging all to help do away with Zeus. The team’s efforts paid off and MODO Zeus will be history in the near future. Efforts are in progress to remove the rig.

This project motivated students and community officials to join forces to continue the endeavor. Students are now developing a presentation that will educate and promote “green” neighborhoods, empowering others to be good stewards of the environment as well. The benefits of a project such as this that will both educate our children and improve our environment for generations to come is a win/win situation for all.
