As the son of a Baptist minister, I lived all around Texas growing up: Amarillo, San Antonio, Arlington, Mt. Pleasant and Kerrville, as well as 5 years in New Orleans, Louisiana.  I taught at Alvin Elementary for 10 years before coming to Jane Long.  Mrs. Wells teaches here, too, and our daughter, Wisteria, was here from 1st through 4th.

My favorite authors write children’s books.  After all, that’s what I read most of the time.  I especially enjoy books by Gary Paulsen, Jerry Spinelli, Susan Cooper, Robin McKinley and Lloyd Alexander.  Those last three have many books that remind me of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books.  Perhaps more than reading for myself, I love to read out loud.  There’s nothing more fun than creating different voices for characters in a story and making it come alive for whoever is listening.  I read books aloud to Mrs. Wells all the time!

Reading isn’t my only interest.  Mrs. Wells and I both write poetry and stories (although we’re still looking for a publisher).  I’m also very involved in the music program at my church, singing in the choir and on the worship team.  Taking pictures is another of my favorite things, especially when we are on vacation.  We love to travel and have made trips by car, plane and train!

Being the librarian at Jane Long is the best!  There is great satisfaction in seeing children get turned on to the wonderful, virtually endless, world of reading.
