Bluebonnet Nominees
If a student reads and passes tests on 5 Bluebonnet nominees, they may
vote for their favorite. For 10, they receive a certificate. If they
read and pass all 20 nominees, they receive a trophy.
Texas Bluebonnet Award
Winners
These books represent Texas students’ choices for the best book for each
of the last 20+ years. Students
reading and passing tests on 20 winners, over their 3rd and 4th grade years,
will earn a trophy.
John
Newbery Award Winners
The Newbery Medal is given to the best children’s book published in the
US each year. A student can read 20 of
these and pass the tests during 3rd and 4th grade, and earn a trophy.
Coretta
Scott King Award Winners
The King Award is given to Black authors and illustrators of children’s
books. Students are challenged during
their 3rd and 4th grade years to read 15 everybody books and 5 novels, pass
the tests and earn a trophy
Pura Belpre Medal Winners
This new award
is given for the
best in Latino Children’s literature. Because many of the books are in
Spanish and English, this challenge is for students in the bi-lingual
program. If they read 10 of the books and pass the AR test, they receive a
certificate.
Cinderella Certificate (Third Grade)
The Jane Long Library houses over 30 different versions of the Cinderella
fairy tale. Over 20 of the stories are
from cultures around the world, while some are simply for fun. This challenge, strictly for 3rd grade
students requires reading 10 and scoring 80% or better on the quiz, to earn a
certificate.
Author Challenge (Fourth Grade)
A 4th grade program, the Author Challenge is simply to read 4 books by
the same author and score 80% or better on the test within a nine week
grading period. The books must be
worth at least 1 point. Students can
meet the challenge every 9 weeks.
