Advanced Placement Exams

Becky Rinehart, Coordinator of Assessment, presented a report on Advanced Placement (AP) examinations.  Mrs. Rinehart reported that both the number of exams taken and administered at Brazosport and Brazoswood High Schools have increased significantly during the past two years, with students currently being offered 15 different tests.  In addition to greater participation, students are also performing very well on the AP exams, with over 70% of 1999 and 2000 test takers passing with a grade of “3” (out of five) or better.

TAAS Exit Results

Mrs. Rinehart also presented Board members with preliminary exit-level TAAS results for 2000-2001, and announced that early results indicate that both Brazosport and Brazoswood High Schools will receive a Texas Education Agency rating of “Exemplary” for the 2000-2001 school year!  In addition to the percents of all students and all student groups passing TAAS, Mrs. Rinehart also presented the percents of each group scoring greater than a TLI of “84.”  Board members applauded the District for its continued success and its focus on “Exemplary and Beyond.”

Dual/Concurrent Program

Char Burgner, Director of Instruction, presented a 2001 update on the District’s Dual-Concurrent Program with Brazosport Community College.  Mrs. Burgner reported that the Program offered over 30 courses and enrolled over 850 high school students during the fall and spring semesters last year.  Of the over 1,000 Dual-Concurrent courses taken, participating students enjoyed a success rate of over 90%.  Mrs. Burgner concluded by stating that the program provides an ideal remedy for “Senioritis.”
