Superintendent Search
Board members voted unanimously to contract with the Region
IV Education Service Center (Region IV) to conduct a
superintendent search. Dr. Hal Guthrie, with Region IV,
explained the superintendent search process to Board members
and the audience and stated Region IV’s ultimate goal is to
have “happy boards and qualified superintendents.” Dr.
Guthrie stated that a successful search includes the
following steps:

board expectations for the next 3-5 years |
 |
Establish
scope of search (state, national, etc.) |
 |
Develop
superintendent “profile” |
 |
Establish
timeline |
 |
Advertise/recruit |
 |
Interview
|
 |

finalists/name “lone finalist” |
Dr. Guthrie

approximately 3-4 months to complete and costs approximately
$13,000. Following the Board’s vote to contract with Region
IV, Board members agreed to hold an initial workshop to
begin the process with Dr. Guthrie on May 18, beginning at

Shapers is an art program for all High School students in
Harris, Waller, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria,
Fort Bend and Montgomery counties. The goal of Culture
Shapers is to encourage young men & women to use their
creative talents to affect their future in a positive way
and to become “Culture Shapers.” This is the second year
that Brazoswood students have participated in the Culture
Shapers Art Contest, and the second time one of our students
has placed in the Top 10. The competition is intense. Not
only is this event a positive one which stresses individual
creativity, it is one which exposes our students to artwork
being done by young artists in the greater Houston area.

titled “Repent” and sold for $250.
THE TEXAS
ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION/VISUAL ART SCHOLASTIC EVENT (VASE)
VASE is an
annual art competition sponsored by the Texas Art Education

abilities and hone their communication skills by describing
their creative process to professional jurors. They are
judged on originality of concept, technical expertise,
understanding of the TEKS, and the interpretation of the
stated intent. Statewide, more than 12,000 students
participated in the 18 regional events. Five Brazoswood High
School students joined a very elite and distinguished group
of young artists for the state event: “The Best in Texas.”
Their artwork will be featured on the VASE website. This is

students by allowing young students to see how they can do
in comparison to other participating 7th graders in the TIP
sixteen-state Talent Search region. A student qualifying for

pool. This is a significant achievement; in that many high
school seniors aspire to achieve such scores. To reach State
level recognition, students must score at least 510 on the
SAT Math or Verbal sections and 20 (English or Math) or 21
