Resolution Supporting Santa Fe I.S.D.

The Board of Trustees adopted a resolution supporting the Santa Fe Independent School District and its appeal to the United States Supreme Court to overturn the United States Fifth Circuit Court’s Decision, declaring unconstitutional student initiated and student led invocations, benedictions, or other solemnizing messages at athletic and other extracurricular events.

 

Textbook Selection Committee for 1999-2000

The Board approved the following staff members to serve on the BISD Official Textbook Selection Committee for 1999-2000: Dr. Anderson (Chairperson), Patricia Davenport (Ex Officio), Ed Kana (Ex Officio), Donna Jablecki, Dolores Trevino, Judi James, Rosa Maria Garcia, Sophia Gaona, Aida Buchanan, Liz Comeaux, Becky Rinehart, and Marilyn Mathews.

 

Interlocal Agreement with Brazoria County

The Board approved an interlocal agreement with Brazoria County to construct parking areas and pads at S. F. Austin Elementary School.

 

Chapter 41 Partner Agreement

The Board approved an agreement with the San Angelo Independent School District to purchase attendance from San Angelo I.S.D. as a means of equalizing the District’s property wealth per student for the 1999-2000 school year. Brazosport I.S.D. will benefit from the agreement by receiving a "credit" from the State, and San Angelo I.S.D. will benefit by receiving an increased overall level of funding.

 

Nominations to the Board of Directors of the Brazoria County Appraisal District

The Board nominated the following individuals as candidates for the Board of Directors of the Brazoria County Appraisal District:

Policy Update

The Board adopted the Texas Association of School Boards’ (TASB) Policy Manual Update 61, as well as two Local District Updates relating to curriculum and absences for extracurricular activities. The policy updates reflect legal mandates and local policy revisions recommended for adoption by TASB’s Policy Services Division.

 

Voluntary Medicare Participation

The Board adopted a resolution, authorizing the District to optionally extend Medicare coverage to employees who were hired by the District before April 1, 1986, and who are covered by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas. Due to a gap left by previously enacted Medicare legislation, employees in this category have not previously had access to Medicare coverage through the District.

 

Amendment to the 1999-2000 Budget

The Board approved an amendment to the 1999-2000 expenditure budget, totaling $776,143, to incorporate 1998-99 purchase orders that remained unpaid as of the District’s fiscal year-end of August 31, 1999.

 

Sale of Delinquent Tax Property

The Board approved the sale of delinquent tax property held in trust by Brazoria County, and authorized the Board President to execute the necessary documents to effect the sale.

 

Waiver of Penalty and Interest Charges

The Board approved a request from the Brazoria County Tax Office to waive penalty and interest charges on ad valorem taxes improperly assessed because of an error in ownership by the County Appraisal District.

 

Approval to Award Bid Contracts

The Board approved awarding contracts for band and orchestra equipment for the 1999-2000 school year.

 

Acceptance of Financial Statement

Trustees accepted the financial statements for August 1999, as presented by the Director of Business Services.
