This is the image for the news article titled BISD Adds New Performance Incentives for Teachers and Campus StaffIn addition to a teacher salary structure that is in the top 10 percent of the state as well as teacher stipends for secondary math, science, Bilingual, Special Education and other areas of need, Brazosport Independent School District is excited to announce two new incentives to increase compensation for campus staff based on student performance.

The first new incentive is for campus Distinctions awarded by the state. All campus staff will now have the opportunity to receive more money for each Texas Education Agency (TEA) Campus Distinction earned for the year. State Distinctions are awarded based on student performance as compared to 40 other schools across the state that are most similar in demographics, which makes this incentive extremely fair for campuses. Distinctions can be awarded in five areas for elementary schools, in six areas for middle schools, and seven for intermediate and high schools (excluding B*Success Academy and Lighthouse Learning Center). The areas of distinction include: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Student Progress, Closing Achievement Gap, and Postsecondary Readiness. BISD teachers and administrative staff will receive $200, and paraprofessional/clerical staff will receive $100 for each TEA Distinction earned. For example, if a campus earns 5 TEA Distinctions for this year, teaching staff will earn an additional $1,000 and the paraprofessional/clerical staff an additional $500. Last school year BISD earned a total of 15 TEA Distinctions, which was the most ever received by the district.

The second new incentive is to reward teachers for preparing students who have to retake their End of Course exams in order to graduate. High school students who have failed an administration of an End of Course exam must take the exam again (retest.) BISD will now pay summer school teachers an additional $100 for each of their students who pass the EOC retest this summer.

To be eligible for these incentive, employees must remain in BISD next year or retire without going to work in another district. Employees also must not have more that 10 days absent to receive the incentive payout for Distinction Pay. Both of these new incentive model payouts will be received in the December paycheck.

In addition to these incentives and starting pay for teachers, for the past two  years the district has paid a stipend for high school math and science teachers of $3,000; seventh and eighth grade math and science teachers stipends are $1,500; and Bilingual stipends of $4,000. BISD also pays $1,500-$2,000 stipends to Special Education teachers.

Core subject teachers at Lanier Middle School who meet specific criteria are eligible for a $10,000 stipend as Distinguished teachers; or a $2,000 stipend as Accomplished teachers. Distinguished teachers must have at least three years of classroom teaching experience, have outstanding appraisals, excellent attendance, and come highly recommended by their current supervisor. Accomplished teachers must have favorable appraisals, show student growth, and be recommended by the Lanier Principal and approved by the Chief Academics Officer and Superintendent.
