Kimberely White and Stephanie Jess are both passionate about what they teach and the lessons that they impart upon their students each and every day, but it is how they teach that truly makes the difference. White stated, “A teacher doesn't just teach, we are superheros to our students. I know that the gift of education is something that could propel them very far in life.”
Jess added, “Loving my students, loving my subject and wanting them to use what I teach them for the rest of their lives, defines me as a teacher.”

Both White and Jess believe that teaching is in their blood. White chose to become a teacher because she comes “from a family legacy of black women educators who, although faced discrimination, triumphed to become amazing teachers with lasting impacts on their students.” Jess, following in the footsteps of her grandmother and aunt, always wanted to be a teacher so that she too would make a positive impact on the lives of her students.”

Both winners are mothers who go the extra mile for their students while keeping up with the busy lives of their family. Both know that teaching is not easy, but as Mrs. Jess said, “We do it because we love these kids and they inspire us every day.” Similarly, Mrs. White believes that it is “..well worth it when I see the blossoming of my students today and how the doors of the school they called home stayed open because of my dedication.”

BISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Kimberely White and BISD Secondary Teacher of the Year Stephanie Jess are making huge impacts every day in the lives of children in BISD. These two kind, caring and compassionate educators are truly providing their students with a quality education through outstanding learning experiences!

White and Jess will represent Brazosport ISD this summer in the Houston area’s 2018-2019 Region IV Education Service Center Teacher of the Year Competition.
