This year Lake Jackson Intermediate (LJI) student Kelsea Bancroft came out on top. She and five others will compete at state as part of the You be the Chemist State Challenge, held on April 14th in Houston, Texas. LJI student Alisa Zamora is the state alternate.

The You Be the Chemist Challenge is a fun and interactive academic competition that engages students in fifth through eighth grades in learning about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety. This challenge operates in a quiz bowl format with several rounds of multiple choice questions. Questions are displayed to both the participants and audience on a screen, then students use electronic response devices to indicate their answers.
