Deborah Browning

I began teaching second grade at Ogg Elementary in 1976 with Harriet Nevill, Glenda Gallegly, Barbara Anders, and Kathryn Phelps (all good role models for a beginning teacher). Mr. Duncan was our principal. I taught second grade for six years before moving to fourth grade where I also taught for six years.

In 1988 I took a leave-of-absence to stay home and take care of my new baby. When I returned the following year, I was assigned to A.P. Beutel as the PBS teacher (K-5). I have also taught fourth, fifth, and first grades during my eleven years at Beutel. People ask which grade I like best, but I can't answer that. Each grade has its unique challenges and rewards, and I feel fortunate that I have had the opportunity to teach every grade and resource at the elementary level.

My very basic philosophy is "tap into the children's lives." They do not live at school. Assume nothing, discover what they need, waste no time, be prepared, and smile. Never be afraid to change, take risks, and enjoy the adventure!
