BISDs Library Media Centers are an integral part of every school campus. Each
school library media specialist provides a variety of services in support of students,
faculty, and staff. They provide resources in a variety of formats in order to enhance
curriculum, support instruction, and offer materials for reading enjoyment. Library Media
Specialists instruct and assist students in developing research skills and offer guidance
in the selection of appropriate reading and research materials. The library staff provides
and maintains audio-visual equipment for each campus.
The library media centers provide informational resources in many different formats
such as on-line, CD-ROM, books, and periodicals. The libraries share an integrated library
automation system which provides on-line access to the books and media located at each
school and in the district video library. The elementary, middle school, and intermediate
school libraries provide books, tests, and support for the Accelerated Reading program
which is being used in grades 1 8.
Specific operating hours vary from school to school, but all libraries are open during
the school day from 7:45am until 3:45pm, and many secondary libraries are open from 7:30am
until 4:00pm.
