Bond Information

The sale of $128,500,000 in bonds was put before voters in September, 2002. Over 80% of voters approved the bond issue.
Clute Intermediate, Velasco Elementary and Lake Jackson Intermediate will get new school buildings and Brazosport High will undergo major renovations.
Every school will benefit in some form from the issue, which also includes funds for asbestos abatement, school buses and technology upgrades as well as athletic facility and American Disabilities Act improvements.
The tax rate, which now stands at $1.42 per $100 valuation, will increase about 22 cents over the next five years. Proposed improvements at district schools will be done in phases and should be complete by 2007.

Update of progress

Timeline for Planning & Construction Projects

The success of the bond referendum Sept. 21 will provide much needed repairs and new construction that will serve Brazosport Independent School District students for many years to come.
On behalf of the district, I would like to take this opportunity to especially thank the members of the original facilities assessment committee for their months of hard work and subsequent recommendations, our community and business partners for their unwavering support and official endorsements, and each and every individual who supported this campaign. It was truly a team effort; from business support to the folks who put signs in their yards and signatures on public display.
All are winners.
But the real winners are the students on our many campuses. Their teachers and the curriculum they teach were already top shelf, and now the school buildings themselves will be at the same level.
All of BISD sees the overwhelming passage of this proposal as a strong mandate to provide and maintain first-rate facilities in which the all-important daily business of education can be conducted. We are grateful for your trust, and we pledge to continue to be worthy of it.

Superintendent, Brazosport ISD

Primary Bond Progress

In August 2001, over 80 committee members representing parents, teachers, administrators, community members, and business/industrial representatives met periodically over the year to assess our facility needs. The result of their hard work was the passage of the bond. The graph below depicts the planning and construction timelines of the key projects. This time frame serves as a planning guide to keep us all informed of work that is planned for each campus.

The graph below is reflective of planning and construction currently in progress and continuing into the 2006 school year. The blue bar indicates planning with the architectural firm and each campus. All plans then go before the Board of Trustees for approval. The red bar depicts the actual construction period for each project.

Interim Bond Update

Projects funded by the BISD Interim Bond approved by voters last May (prior to the Primary Bond which was passed in September) are under way. Almost 1,500 desktop computers have been upgraded or reallocated, the network server has been revamped and over 900 state-required graphing calculators have been purchased. In the near future, a student health software system and digital surveillance systems will be purchased for both high schools and the Alternative Placement Center.

Interior renovations (i.e. case work, carpeting, interior walls) are almost complete at the following elementary schools: Austin, Brannen, Long, Ney, Ogg, Polk, Roberts and at both middle schools: Lanier and Rasco. Roof replacements and installations are in various stages of completion at Ogg, Brannen, Roberts and Ney elementary schools. Fire alarm systems at Brazoswood, Ogg, Beutel, Long, Griffith, and Polk are between 75 and 95% complete. Lighting renovations on several campuses are 60% complete. With these projects nearing completion, attention can now be shifted to those provided for in the Primary referendum.
