Description of Program: This program objective is to ensure that limited
English proficient students achieve and master the necessary skills in a
transitional bilingual program. The goal is to develop competent students who
are lifelong learners and successful citizens in out multi-cultural society.
Bilingual/ESOL education emphasizes the mastery of English language skills and
content area concepts, and skills in order for students to be able to
participate effectively in the regular education classroom.
Eligibility Criteria: All students classified as (LEP) Limited English
Proficient based on the score received on the IDEA examination.
Services Offered: In bilingual education, instruction is provided in
the native language in order to build a solid foundation in the home language,
and transitional instruction in English to build on experience and skills
acquired in the native language. In secondary ESOL education, English
instruction to support the second language learner.
