Description of Program: The purpose of Migrant Education Program is
in helping to support educational programs for migratory children. The
program's objective is to help reduce any educational disruptions or problems that may
result from repeated moves. It ensures that
students are provided with appropriate educational services and that they have the
opportunity to meet the same challenging state content and student performance standards
that all children are expected to meet.
The seven areas of focus include:
- Migrant Service coordination
- Early Childhood Education
- New Generation System for Migrant Student
Record Transfer
- Parental Involvement
- Identification and Recruitment
- Graduation Enhancement
- Secondary Credit Exchange and Accrual
(grades 9-12)
Eligibility Criteria: Students who
are alone or with their parents, have been employed as migratory
agricultural workers or migratory fishermen, and who have moved within the past thirty-six
months. The family has crossed district lines to enable the child, the childs
guardian, or a member of the childs immediate family to obtain temporary or seasonal
employment in an agricultural or fishing activity.
Services Offered: Students services for identified migrant children include
one-on-one tutorials, record transfer packets, eyeglasses (if needed), school supplies and
other opportunities throughout the year.
