Description of Program: The purpose of compensatory education is to improve and enhance
the programs and services funded under the regular education program for educationally
disadvantaged students. The number of students is determined by averaging the enrollment
in the national free or reduced price lunch program. BISD offers a variety of programs and
services and has increased campus-level services for at-risk students based upon specific
needs of each campus population.
Eligibility Criteria: Each program has different eligibility criteria. BISD has
published a Report on Compensatory Education Programs and At-Risk Update, which can be
reviewed at the Federal Programs office. This report contains information on each program
and the eligibility criteria as well.
Services Offered: The goal of remedial and compensatory programs is to accelerate
instruction in order to close the performance gap between identified students and other
students. Teachers provide unity of purpose toward a common set of goals, and empowering
all participants of the school community with the authority to take responsibility for
building on strengths of students to achieve desired learner outcomes.
