Description of Program: Enacted in 1965 as part of the Elementary and Secondary Act,
Title I was designed to provide federal funding to local schools to support supplemental
reading instruction for low-achieving disadvantaged children. Currently Title I services
are schoolwide and serve the needs of many children throughout the district.
Eligibility Criteria: The services are provided in designated Title I schools
throughout the district. The low socio-economic students and the students scoring below
expected levels on various assessments are given priority to services.
Services Offered: Extended time, one-on-one tutorials, class reduction ratios,
intensive instruction time
