Project Teach

The Project Teach Scholarship Loan Program allows recent BISD graduates and Instructional Assistants to reach their goals of becoming a teacher in our district.  This collaborative program strives to develop “home grown talent” and teacher candidates who have a sincere interest in working with students and a desire to teach in the critical shortage areas at Brazosport Independent School District.

Project Teach Details

Again, Brazosport Independent School District and Brazosport College are joined by area universities in offering the Project Teach Scholarship-Loan Program to high school graduates and Instructional Aides seeking careers in teaching. Areas of emphasis within the Education degree will include: Science, Math, Bilingual Education and Special Education. Successful students will have a guaranteed teaching assignment waiting on them in the Brazosport Independent School District when all expectations are met.

The nationwide teacher shortage has grown even larger in recent months. This shortage has encouraged school districts to aggressively recruit qualified teachers including grow your own scholarship-loan programs. This collaborative program strives to develop “home-grown talent” with teacher candidates who have a sincere interest in working with students, a record of academic achievement, and a desire to teach in the Brazosport Independent School District.

Each Project Teach recipient is eligible for a $15,000 scholarship-loan. Brazosport College and area universities support a portion of this scholarship, with the remaining $6,500 coming from the business and community sectors. Each year approximately $32,000.00 is needed to sustain the program. Last year monies raised by the Diamonds & Denim Gala provided fifteen students with opportunities to continue their education.  Graduates from Brazosport and Brazoswood as well as employees within the district are eligible to apply for the 2008 scholarships this spring.
