BISD Names Alan Weddell Athletic Director

Coach Weddell, one of the most successful high school coaches in Texas, was selected just this year into the prestigious Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. From 1990 to 1997, Weddell transformed the LaMarque Cougar program into a perennial Texas football powerhouse winning three consecutive Class 4A state titles and qualifying for the state finals five straight seasons with a noteworthy 103-13 record and six district crowns. Coach Weddell was named District Coach of the Year six times and the Galveston County Coach of the Year on three times.

Alan Weddell made the jump to college coaching at Texas A&M, under renowned head coach, R. C. Slocum, to assist the defensive coordinator as middle linebackers coach. At A&M, Weddell helped coach four bowl teams, including the 1998 Big 12 Championship Team. He then joined the staff at the University of Houston, originally as the linebackers coach, going on to become their defensive coordinator in 2006.  Coach Weddell also served as the defensive coordinator at Brazoswood HS.

Weddell is a proud graduate of Brazosport High School, earning his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master’s degree in Education and Administration from the University of Houston, Victoria.
“BISD is in great hands with Alan Weddell as the our new athletic director,” Superintendent Danny Massey stated. “His extensive experience in overseeing successful programs and his proven ability as a leader on and off of the field made him the perfect selection to champion BISD’s athletic department.”
