Six schools in Brazosport Independent School District have earned a total of 15 distinctions according to the 2018 Texas Education Agency accountability ratings.

Congratulations to the students and staff of Brannen Elementary (5), SFA STEM Academy (3), Freeport Intermediate (3), Beutel Elementary (2), Lake Jackson Intermediate (1) and Polk Elementary (1). As a result, staff members of these campuses will receive additional pay for each distinction their campus received.

Last school year the BISD Board approved an additional $200 for professional staff and $100 for support staff for each TEA distinction earned by their school. This equates to an additional $1,000 for every professional staff member and $500 for each support staff member at Brannen Elementary, who earned a total of five out of the five awarded distinctions.

“We are proud to once again receive so many state distinctions, and we applaud our Board for approving this added incentive as a way to show these staff members that their efforts are very much appreciated,” said Superintendent Danny Massey.

Distinction designations are awarded for achievement based on performance relative to a group of campuses from across the state that are of similar type, size, grade span and student demographics. Ten of the distinctions earned by these campuses came in the areas of Postsecondary Readiness, Academic Growth and Closing Performance Gaps, which are areas impacted by the district’s ongoing intervention and Professional Learning Communities initiatives. And for the second consecutive year, Brannen Elementary earned every possible distinction including Reading, Math, Student Progress, Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.

“This is more great evidence of the high quality of education BISD students are receiving,” said BISD Superintendent Danny Massey
