Thursday, April 4, 2019 was an exciting day for Polk Pandas. In a partnership with Schneider Electric, fourth graders at Gladys Polk Elementary participated in a tree planting to celebrate Earth Day.

By planting a tree, the goal was for students to see the tree as a symbol that inspires and reminds them to protect the Earth and make the most of their energy.  During the event, students participated in activities that included discussions about clean air, environmental friendliness, and the need for reducing, reusing and recycling.

Brazosport ISD entered into a partnership with Schneider Electric in 2010 to leverage the District’s
energy budget to fund much-needed energy and infrastructure upgrades designed to save money and
improve the learning environment for its students.  “Sustainability is an important lesson for everyone, and thanks to Schneider Electric and this Earth Day Celebration, our students are learning how they can make a difference,” said Rebecca Kelley ,Brazosport ISD Chief Financial and Government Affairs Officer.

“We are thrilled to partner with Brazosport ISD in their progressive initiative to bring sustainability
awareness to students,” said Tammy Fulop, Vice President, Schneider Electric.

The educational activities culminated with the students taking an Earth Day pledge and assisting Schneider Electric in the planting of a crepe myrtle tree on the grounds of Polk Elementary.  Polk Elementary dedicated the tree to the Polk Librarian, Carol Stanford who is retiring in June after 27 years of service to Brazosport ISD students.
