This is the image for the news article titled BISD Introduces LIFT UP One-On-One Mentoring Program At Brazosport ISD, we are taking another step in our commitment to providing a safe, positive school climate and addressing the needs of every student. We are excited to announce that this fall LIFT UP, a school-based mentoring program for the students of BISD, will launch with the purpose of connecting encouraging, caring adults with our students. The name LIFT UP stands for “Leaders Inspiring the Future Today” but also represents the value of being those individuals who support, guide and encourage others in the pursuit of a successful life.

Along with the already outstanding mentoring program at Brazosport and Brazoswood High Schools called Belay provided by True to Life Ministries, we will add this new initiative designed to establish another link between students and a positive role model. “Our goal is for every student in BISD to have a trusting adult they feel comfortable talking to,” says Superintendent Danny Massey. “There is no greater way to impact a student’s life and your life than to become a mentor!”

What is the commitment you might ask? Mentors meet with their matched student one day a week, for 30 minutes at the campus, during school hours. A mentor commits for the duration of the school year, but if both student and adult are interested, they may continue meeting in subsequent school years. Mentors are matched with students based on schedule, availability, personality and interest.

The research data on the benefits of a consistent, kind presence in the life of a young person is clear. One of the most inspiring statistics is that 9 out of 10 students in a mentoring relationship report aspiring to be a mentor themselves.

We are asking for you to seriously consider joining us in this valuable effort. We believe in the transformative effect one caring adult can have on a child’s life!
