BISD’s Management Team, consisting of campus and central office administrators, selected Joshua Lara from Elisabet Ney Elementary as BISD’s Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year and Cheryl Roberts from Brazoswood High School as BISD’s Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year.

Joshua Lara has been an educator for 11 years, with 6 of those years serving the students of BISD. He grew up in Freeport, Texas and is a product of BISD as a 2003 graduate of Brazosport High School. While in high school, he was awarded the BISD Project Teach Scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University with a major in Academic Studies and a minor in Special Education. He received his Masters for Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. Since the beginning of the 2017 school year, Mr. Lara has served the students, faculty and staff, and community as the Assistant Principal of Elisabet Ney Elementary. Mr. Lara feels blessed to be at Ney Elementary and is excited to be a part of the BISD family and community. Mr. Lara has been married to his wife Lauren for 12 years and they have two sons, Elijah (8) and Jamison (1 ½).

“Mr. Lara has been a wonderful addition to Elisabet Ney Team after joining us in 2017. His enthusiasm, positive attitude, and love for children is seen everyday and appreciated by all,” said Ney Principal Vicky Parr.

Cheryl Roberts has served Brazosport ISD for 15 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She received her Masters for Educational Leadership from Prairie View A&M University. She began her career in BISD at Bess Brannen Elementary as a teacher and then moved to Brazosport High School as an assessment specialist. After three years in central office as the Coordinator of Assessment and Accountability, she moved to Brazoswood High School as an assistant principal. For the last five years she has served as the Associate Principal of Brazoswood High School. Mrs. Roberts received Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year in 2015-16 and is honored to receive the award again this year.

Brazoswood Principal Rita Pintavalle stated “Mrs. Roberts is a driving force behind the academic success of our campus. She has taken on a lead role on the 9th grade Center which is creating a culture of acceptance and kindness through Capturing Kids Hearts and Restorative Practice. It is exciting to watch Mrs. Roberts building relationships with staff, students and parents every day”.
