In an effort to help ensure all students have access to meals during the summer, the Brazosport ISD Transportation and Child Nutrition departments are offering a summer mobile feeding program called “Meals on the Move” through July.
“While our Child Nutrition program offers free lunch at several campuses for summer school programming, many of our students are not enrolled in these programs or do not have the transportation to go to these sites because they are left at home while their parents are at work,” said Director of Child Nutrition Rachel Arthur. “We are piloting a Summer Mobile Feeding program in hopes of reaching students who would otherwise not have access to meals.”
The district’s mobile feeding bus will travel to neighborhoods in Freeport and distribute grab and go lunches for children. BISD staff has been working with city officials to identify key locations for the mobile feeding buses to park that functions with easy traffic flow and provides safe access for students to walk to.
Thanks goes to Freeport LNG and BASF who have generously donated $1,000 to help us get this program up and running. We greatly appreciate their support of this new endeavor.
