Governor Abbott has ordered that schools remain closed for the rest of the scheduled school year to avoid potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Brazosport ISD will not return to face-to-face classroom instruction this school year. Brazosport ISD will continue to provide Remote Learning opportunities for all students for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, which ends May 21st. We will continue to offer free meals for students 18 and under for the remainder of the scheduled school year.

BISD Family,
I am writing to share Brazosport ISD’s plans for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. Governor Abbott has ordered that schools remain closed for the rest of the scheduled school year to avoid potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Brazosport ISD will not return to face-to-face classroom instruction this school year. Brazosport ISD will continue to provide Remote Learning opportunities for all students for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, which ends Thursday, May 21, 2020.
We understand that the learning experiences from being in school are difficult to be replicated with Remote Learning, however, Brazosport ISD is very advanced in our digital learning platforms and with the hard work and dedication of our BISD teachers and staff, our students have continued to learn while our schools have been closed. Offering Remote Learning also allows us to not have to make up the school days missed due to school closures. While we recognize that this system may not be ideal for every student and parent, we ask each student to just try your best.
If we are not allowed to have the traditional graduation ceremonies in May for the Class of 2020, we are making plans for alternate graduation ceremonies on May 22 and May 23. The traditional graduation ceremonies will be rescheduled to June, and if necessary, July. We will announce the details in the very near future. High school campus principals will be sharing information about end of year events for seniors, including information about refunds for cancelled events.
Brazosport ISD will continue to offer free meals for students 18 and under for the remainder of the scheduled school year. Coronavirus Parent Communication
Update Posted April 5, 2020
A Brazosport ISD Child Nutrition staff member was confirmed as testing positive for the coronavirus on Saturday, April 4. The employee had worked at our T.W. Ogg Elementary site only. All staff assigned to the T.W. Ogg site will isolate at home for the next 14 days.
According to the Brazoria County Health Department, anyone who picked up meals at T. W. Ogg is low risk for exposure and is not required to self quarantine at home.
In an abundance of caution, food preparation and curbside meal pick up will be moved from T.W. Ogg to Clute Intermediate School. Pick up at Clute Intermediate will begin Tuesday, April 7 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at the cafeteria entrance of the school. The Meals on the Move Bus will be adding a stop beginning Monday, April 6 at T.W. Ogg from 12:45-1:30 pm.
The health and safety of our students, staff and community will remain our top priority alongside providing quality meals to feed our students in a safe and caring environment.

Texas State Governor Greg Abbott issued an extension of a previous executive order that all schools in the state of Texas will remain closed until May 4th. This order was made in an effort to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
It is important to continue to stay home unless engaged in essential services and activities. BISD will remain flexible as leaders plan for long-term delivery of instruction and continue to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation. district website and social media channels for more information on plans to deliver instruction and information on our feeding program. The health of our students, staff and community is the district’s top priority and district leaders are working to ensure the community has the most current information available.

BISD Campuses Closed Until April 10

In an effort to support our area’s need to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic Brazosport ISD will join regional school districts in extending the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 10. The Houston and Brazoria County areas are expected to see an increasing number of confirmed cases of the virus and health officials report that this number is expected to continue to increase as more testing is made available.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. The President has publicly shared that the community should not gather in groups larger than 10 people. It is important to stay at home and limit contact with others when at all possible during this time.
BISD will remain flexible as leaders plan for long-term delivery of instruction and continue to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation. BISD Parents/Guardians:
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted and rapidly changing issues related to the coronavirus. We have been in daily communication with state and local health departments, the Region 4 Education Service Center, and the Texas Education Agency. We have also been monitoring the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidance and updates.
Beginning on this Wednesday, March 18, and continuing while campuses are closed, BISD will provide Remote Learning opportunities for students. We know Remote Learning will look different for each grade level and the various course offerings. Remote Learning can include internet based (high technology) or paper pencil assignment packets (no technology.) Not all PreK-12th grade subjects or courses will be included. We understand that we may not be able to reach every student, but we will try! Our staff has been working diligently preparing for these learning opportunities. Again, it will look differently based on grade levels, subjects, technology and no technology options. You will hear more information from your child’s teacher or campus.
Safety is our top priority, so the last thing we want to do at this time is overwhelm our teachers and students with Remote Learning. It is not our intent for students, teachers, or parents to become stressed over this. We understand that the learning experiences from being in school cannot be replicated with Remote Learning, however, Brazosport ISD is very advanced in our digital learning platforms. For many students and teachers learning can continue while schools are closed. Offering Remote Learning also allows us to not have to make up the school days missed due to school closures.
When we return to classes we will have a new absence code for coronavirus. These absences will be counted as EXCUSED as long as schools are making an attempt to provide some form of Remote Learning. Parents may choose to keep their student home from fear of the virus. We will offer these students Remote Learning and use the coronavirus excused absence code. We have a number of students who are considered medically fragile, have suppressed immune systems, or respiratory illnesses. We want to offer parents of these students Remote Learning options immediately upon returning.
A few days ago, you should have received a notification requesting information on the recent travel history of your student, along with a few other questions. If staff or students have traveled to any Level 3 areas identified by the CDC in the last two weeks, we will follow their recommendations for students and staff to stay home for 14 days from the time of arrival back home. Below is a link of what are considered Level 3 countries. This list is fluid, with more countries being added each day. If you have traveled to a Level 3 country please be sure to complete this form and stay home for 14 days.

While schools are closed, we will offer curbside "grab and go" food service for students at certain designated campuses, and set up food distribution in certain neighborhoods across the district. As you know, we are extremely fortunate to have a very generous and helping community. At this time, we do not need volunteers to help distribute food. We need to practice "social distancing" and avoid creating large gatherings of people. Food can be picked up from 10 AM to 2 PM at Ney, Ogg, and Velasco Elementary Schools. We will set up distribution of food at SF Austin Elementary School in Jones Creek from 10:30-11:00 AM, Northgate Apartments in Freeport from 11:15-11:40 AM, Avenue J Apartments (at the entrance to Casa Quintana) from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM, and Griffith Elementary School from 1-1:30 PM.
We did receive notification today from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that all state STAAR assessments are canceled for this school year. We know there will be some flexibility and local control for seniors who still need to pass state exams to graduate. We will receive more guidance from TEA regarding this soon.
At this time, we are scheduled to be closed through Friday, March 20. We will continue to conference daily with health experts and the Texas Education Agency to make the safest decisions for our students and staff for when to return. Brazosport ISD continues to monitor the CDC’s list of countries with widespread or ongoing community spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, via the CDC website. This is a constantly changing situation, and we encourage you to continue monitoring the BISD website and social media channels for the latest district information.
The safety of our students and staff continues to be our top priority. We will monitor updates from the CDC and the Texas Department of State Health Services for additional information and guidance and will share details with you regarding any updates we may receive.
In effort to understand potential exposure risks, Brazosport ISD is asking all families to complete the questionnaire to assist in our tracking of student spring break travel, to assist the district in making informed decisions.

In an abundance of caution due to the coronavirus, all Brazosport ISD campuses will be closed for regular operations next week 3/16-3/20. All extracurricular activities have also been canceled for next week. We have worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control, health experts, and the Texas Education Agency. We are working with our staff on a way to deliver and turn in student assignments remotely. We will provide more information on that once finalized. We want to ensure the safety of our students and staff first.

Dear Brazosport ISD Family,
Brazosport ISD continues to monitor the ongoing updates regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). We want to once again remind students, families and staff that washing your hands, covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing and staying at home when sick or feverish are the best ways to prevent the spread of the flu or other respiratory illnesses.
Our campuses will be disinfected over spring break and we will have hand sanitizers in place for the return of our students and staff. We encourage parents to consider disinfecting your child’s backpacks and other school supplies as an added preventative measure.
As we head into the break it is also important to take precautions when traveling. If you are traveling, you should refer to the
Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Coronavirus Disease Information Travel website.
Brazosport ISD will continue to be in communication with the Brazoria County Health Department, the CDC and state authorities regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and provide updates to families as warranted.

While we continue to work closely with local and federal health authorities, as of February 27, 2020, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Brazoria County and no additional precautions have been advised for our district at this time. However, we do not take this lightly, and will stay vigilant to keep you informed.
As a proactive and precautionary measure, Brazosport ISD will be disinfecting all of our campuses and facilities during Spring Break (March 9-13, 2020). We would also like to arm you with the information and tips below in an effort to help keep you and your family healthy.
CDC Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information: Imported cases of COVID-19 in travelers have been
detected in the U.S. Person-to-person spread of COVID-19 also has been seen among close contacts of returned travelers from Wuhan, China but at this time, this virus is NOT currently spreading in the community in the United States.
Individual risk is dependent on exposure...
- For the general American public, who are unlikely to be exposed to this virus at this time, the immediate health risk from COVID-19 is considered low.
- Under current circumstances, certain people will have an increased risk of infection, for example healthcare workers caring for patients with COVID-19 and other close contacts of persons with COVID-19.
Continue to implement the following precautions to reduce the potential spread of the flu or coronavirus
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- If you are sick, stay home and limit contact with people.
- Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue and throw it in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth with unclean hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Influenza (flu) Information:
Flu and Coronavirus symptoms are very similar (fever, body aches, coughing and generally feeling bad). Some people are at higher risk of severe illness or complications from these viruses, including people who are less than 5 years of age, are 65 years of age or older, or have certain chronic conditions. These include chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (excluding hypertension), endocrine, renal, hepatic, neurologic, hematologic or metabolic disorders, are immunosuppressed, are or will become pregnant during the influenza season. Those younger than 19 years who are receiving long-term aspirin therapy, are residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, or are morbidly obese (body mass index >40) are also at higher risk for getting flu.
Symptoms of the flu may include fever or feeling feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue. Among children, ear infection, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are also commonly reported. Not everyone who has the flu runs a fever. Infected persons can start spreading the virus up to 24 hours before the onset of symptoms. Additionally, some persons who become infected with the flu do not have symptoms, but can still spread the virus.
While there are no reports of the coronavirus in our county, families are encouraged to visit CDC website for more information and travel guidance regarding the Coronavirus.

Brazosport ISD follows the guidance and expertise of national and local health officials to help protect our students and staff from all communicable diseases. The District is aware that The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring the increased number of influenza (flu) cases in Brazoria County and the recent outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Below is some helpful information and tips to help keep you and your family healthy.
Coronavirus Information: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. While there are no reports of this illness in Texas, families are encouraged to visit
CDC website for more information and travel guidance regarding the Coronavirus.
No additional precautions have been advised for Brazosport ISD at this time, but we will continue to be in communication with our local partners and stand ready to take all appropriate measures. Should this change, the district will immediately notify all parties.
Precautions to Help Prevent Illness
As a reminder, the CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
