Red Ribbon Week in BISD Oct. 28-Nov.1
Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country, will be in full swing in BISD October 28-November 1.
The week will begin with a long-standing district tradition of the C.H.I.C.K.E.N. (Cool, Honest, Intelligent, Clear-Headed, Keen, Energetic, Not-interested-in-drugs) Club Rally. Fourth grade students from every campus will join with high school extra-curricular groups from both Brazosport and Brazoswood to experience an hour full of positive messages about making good choices and reaching for their full potential. All those present will be treated to an inspirational message from Brazosport High School teacher, Jaime Moreno. All BISD counselors will lead students in unison to the CHICKEN Club pledge.
Every campus in BISD will spend the week creating awareness concerning the problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs while supporting healthy, productive lifestyles. Activities often include quirky themes like “socking it to drugs” (by wearing colorful socks) or “teaming up against drugs” (by wearing your favorite sports shirt).
Since its beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon Week has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing red ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America.
We hope you will join us in supporting our students as they show their commitment to stay drug-free! Check the link below for all the fun activities planned on each campus!
