The Brazosport ISD UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contest year-end results are in and BISD brought home a total of 17 Sweepstakes trophies! Events began two weeks ago with the Freeport Intermediate School Orchestra, and ended with the Brazoswood Choir on April 30, 2021. In between groups from Clute Intermediate, Lake Jackson Intermediate, and Brazosport High School sang and played their way to UIL honors. In all 20 groups competed, all earning Superior or Excellent ratings.

Organizations earn the Sweepstakes distinction when the guest judges in both concert and sight-reading competitions give the performance a division I rating which is the highest score possible. Martin Montoya, Brazoswood Band Director expressed his pride with the students when sharing about the day, “Despite our efforts at resuming normality: after school rehearsals, both virtual and in-person concerts - we’ve never had all of the students together until today’s UIL performance.” He added a post congratulations not just to his students on their performance but “a shout out to every teacher out there trying to make it work. You are awesome and deserve an award far greater than any rating or trophy.”
