We are thrilled to report that cases of COVID-19 among students and staff within Brazosport ISD have remained low since the start of school. The district currently has only six active positive cases out of our over 13,300 students and staff. This equates to less than one-half of a percent (0.045%) of COVID cases.
Our campus staff has been back to school since August 10, 2020 and our students have been on campuses since August 31. Since August 19, a total of only nineteen staff members and 53 students have tested positive for the virus, and not one case has been attributed to contracting the virus at school. Thankfully, Brazosport ISD schools have not been sources of community spread of COVID-19.
We appreciate our staff for the tremendous efforts implementing the prevention and mitigation measures and safety protocols. It has not always been easy or convenient, but our students and staff are healthy and safe as a result. The following pages outline some of the many preventative and mitigation measures district staff has put in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff:
Also, we are so happy to see more students on campuses for the second 9 weeks grading period. We started school with 64% (7,286) of the districts’ students At-School, and 36% (4,112) At-Home. In the second 9 weeks grading period this percentage has increased by 14% for At-School students (78% or 8,842 students), and decreased among At-Home learners (22% or 2,536 students). The data shows that our At-School students are progressing and learning much better than our At-Home learners, with 25 percent of our At-Home students failing two or more classes for the first 9 weeks grading period. This is more than three times higher than our At-School students.
