COVID-19 didn’t stop the
BISD Name that Book Competition from happening this year. BISD campus teams from across the district, in grades Kindergarten through 8th, participated virtually from their campuses on Thursday, April 15, 2021, to show off their reading comprehension skills during the
5th Annual Name that Book Competition.
The 2020-2021 “Great Texas Mosquito List,” (GTML) developed by BISD librarians for each grade level K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, were used as the focus of clues given in the
Name that Book Competition. Librarians selected the GTML books from a larger list nominated by students, teachers, and librarians across the district, as well as our local public librarians. Campus teams were chosen, the books were read, and students practiced before, during, and after school for the competition. Librarians and teachers sponsored teams on each campus.
The
Name That Book Competition consisted of three rounds of clues related to quotes, characters, settings, or keywords from the Mosquito list. This year, teams participated via Google Meets from their campus, holding up either a picture of the cover of the book for K-2 or title cards for grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 to be judged. The final round for 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8 was a “jeopardy”-style Kahoot. The virtual format did not deter the excitement of the competition or the competitiveness of the teams, as K-2 and 7-8 had to have tie breaker rounds.
