This is the image for the news article titled Brazosport Lady Powerlifter Medals at StateBrazosport Junior Thalia Pina did not come home empty-handed from the State 4A Powerlifting Meet. Thalia placed fifth in her weight class and was able to set personal best records in all three categories; squat, bench press and deadlift.

In preparation, Pina, along with the BPHS Powerlifting team, put in hard work and trained for weeks. Pina placed 1st in her weight class at the Class 4A Division II Region IV Powerlifting Meet held in Bay City, which advanced her to State.

“I am extremely proud of Thalia’s determination and commitment to competing,” Coach TJ Heidt said. “I’m proud of her hard work and success at state.”

Powerlifting competitions consist of completing three attempts in three events: squat, bench press, and deadlift. On any attempt, if competitors cannot successfully lift two out of three lifts they are out of the competition, or disqualified if they drop the bar by releasing it. To excel in the sport it requires strength, but more than that, it requires discipline, confidence, determination and a lot of technique and strategy.

Congratulations Thalia and to Coach Heidt on this outstanding accomplishment. We can not wait to see what you can accomplish next year!
