Dr. Matt Robinson Named BISD Extra Mile RecipientAt the October Regular Board meeting, BISD presented State Board of Education (SBOE) Representative Dr. Matt Robinson with an “Extra Mile” Award. The district created the "Extra Mile" Award several years ago to recognize individuals or groups for their dedication to students and their willingness to go the Extra Mile for BISD. Superintendent Danny Massey and the Board of Trustees thanked Dr. Matt Robinson for doing just that, for going the extra mile for our students and all public school students in Texas.

Dr. Matt Robinson serves on the State Board of Education and is a tireless champion for students, educators and parents. Dr. Robinson was elected to the SBOE in November of 2018 and began serving the following January. In his short time on the SBOE, Robinson has already contributed a great deal to our public schools, especially the ones he serves in SBOE District 7, which includes Brazoria, Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Sabine, San Augustine, and Tyler counties, as well as parts of Fort Bend County.

Dr. Robinson grew up in Lake Jackson and was a 1982 graduate of Brazoswood High School. His mother Judy Robinson was a long time Brazosport ISD teacher and is now retired. With a firm footing in public schools, Dr. Robinson is known as a steadfast believer in strong public schools, with high-quality teachers, utilizing modern instructional methods with a continuous focus on family involvement.

Prior to his election to the SBOE, Dr. Robinson served on the Friendswood ISD School Board from 2008 to 2018. As a Friendswood ISD Board member, Robinson was selected to be a part of a group of 36 school board members from across the state, as part of the Texas Association of School Boards program, Leadership TASB. This opportunity enabled Dr. Robinson to see firsthand the challenges public schools face throughout Texas. For his hard work and dedication, Robinson earned the designation as a Master Trustee through his training with the Leadership TASB Program.

Utilizing his experiences, Dr. Robinson has brought his breadth of knowledge to serve on the SBOE’s Committee on School Initiatives. This committee oversees issues such as the State Board for Education Certification Rule Review, Extracurricular activities, School Board Member Training, Educational Technology/ Telecommunications and the development of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Public Education.

BISD thanks Dr. Matt Robinson for being a champion for public education and going the extra mile for the students in BISD and the thousands of children that attend school daily in SBOE District 7.
